Where Can Christmas Trees Go?

Where can Christmas trees go after the presents have been unwrapped, all the cookies and cakes eaten and New Year’s Eve celebrated? Getting ready for the holidays is a wonderful time of the year for giving, presents, turkeys, hams and grandma’s cookies.   And though every home celebrates the season differently, for most, the main household centerpieces is the Christmas tree.  25 to 30 million live trees are sold every year.  Where do they all go when the holiday season ends?

Where Can Christmas Trees Go?

There are many options for disposing both live and artificial trees.  Check out the options below.

Real Christmas Trees

Pick up Service

In many urban and suburban areas, Christmas trees are collected from curbside during the first 2 weeks in January. Be sure to remove all wires, tinsel, decorations, lights, nails and stands.   If your area does not offer this service, many free and local drop-off recycling centers will take your Christmas tree.

Recycle

Anywhere in Georgia! Bring One for the Chipper, the state’s annual Christmas tree recycling program, invites Georgia residents to bring their trees to local drop-off centers on January 4, 2020 from 9 am to 4 pm.  At many locations, Boy Scouts are on hand to help you quickly unload the tree.

Donate

Many farms and zoos will take donated trees for their animals to use as food and playthings.

Artificial Christmas Trees

Pick Up Service

Though artificial trees can’t be recycled, you can still leave them curbside, if your area offers this service, or be take it to a local drop-off center.

Donate

Many organizations such as hospitals and retirement homes will gladly take artificial trees for donations.  Other organizations like Good Will, Salvation Army and Church Thrift Stores will also accept artificial trees in good condition.

Be Crafty

Reusing an artificial tree each year will save you time and money.  When the tree starts to look worn, use various parts to create centerpieces, mantel decorations or wreaths.

We hope these suggestions come to mind when the Christmas season ends and it’s time to pack up the decorations. But until then, everyone at R & R Container wishes you a Merry Christmas and Happy New year!
