Georgia Summer Events

Whether you’re in Marietta like us, up in Athens at the University of Georgia, or anywhere else in our beautiful state, the summer is a time for being outdoors. We all fill our time with outdoor events, such as the Glover Park concert series, or Georgia Movies In The Park. There’s always something to do, and our time would feel empty without Georgia summer events!

We at R&R Containers know the importance of properly managing an event. Imagine for a moment that you’re out at the park, and there’s a country covers band up on the stage. As your kids run and play, the band wraps up and steps offstage. we’re running smooth, until the speakers start blasting heavy metal! The kids are hollering, covering their ears, and you’re looking for an exit plan, right?

While a Georgia summer event may benefit from music to fill the space between bands, it needs to be the right stuff, and done the right way! Now picture a movie In the park type event. Georgia parks aren’t always set up for a ton of people, and they may simply have some plastic city garbage bins. What happens when a couple hundred people show up? These folks are eating hotdogs, drinking sodas, throwing popcorn around. They’re going to fill up those bins in NO time! And if we get a really strong wind? That popcorn is EVERYWHERE! Just like that, because an event was too successful, or because weather was just a little unexpected, the garbage bins stopped being the right stuff.

Georgia Summer Events Need the Right Stuff

If they had been fully prepared with a roll off dumpster, the event would continue to be a hit! People going out to Georgia summer events shouldn’t need to worry about getting caught in a popcorn tornado. With the right stuff from R&R, you can count on well-contained trash that gets hauled away when everything is done!

Best Landscape Project Ideas

Nowadays you can find a huge variety of DIY yard projects on the web.  There is everything from an at-home cutting garden to porch decorating, Koi ponds, outdoor fire pits and cozy verandas.  What are your projects for this Spring?

A good place to start is by cleaning up lawns and flower beds.  Like an artist, with a clean palette, the sky’s the limit with what you can build and create.

If you are working on flower beds, check with your local nursery to see what types of flowers thrive in your area.

Are you thinking about adding trees or shrubs?  Keep in mind the size of the area where you will be planting.  Make sure any trees or plants you select aren’t going to outgrow the space or take over existing plants.

In addition to planting greenery, think about adding features such as pebble walkways, arbors, swings, a koi pond and rockscapes to really give that area a “wow” factor.

How a Roll-off Container Can Help

As long as you are not disposing of hazardous or dangerous materials, almost any yard waste can go into a roll-off container.

Debris such as:

  • Topsoil
  • Plant material
  • Bricks
  • Gravel
  • Concrete
  • Cinder Blocks
  • Wood
  • Rocks

Most roll-off container rental companies, such as R & R Container Services in Acworth, GA, will be happy to do a free consultation to discuss container sizes and what would work best for your needs.

Place the Container Close to Your Work Area

Most containers are safe for driveways and yards. Wood can be placed under the container for greater protection to asphalt and grass.  Show the driver where you will be working so that they can place the container in the most convenient spot.

Keep in mind that if you will have the container for more than 24 hours, it shouldn’t be place on the street without getting a permit.

No matter what type of project you take on this spring, your local roll-off container company can help you haul away landscape materials and debris.  What better time to spruce up your yard with a special area for parties or quiet time.

Landfills For All of Our Trash Needs

Landfills for All of Our Trash Needs

Landfills for all of our trash needs and what you need to know about them.    When a roll off container is removed from your property it can be taken to one of four landfills.  The different types of landfills serve different functions.  Once you understand the functions you will understand the restrictions that are placed on what can and can’t load into a container.

Landfills for all your trash needs

The Four Types of Containers

There are three standard types of landfills: construction and demolition, municipal solid waste and hazardous waste.  Each type takes specific types of waste and has different practices to limit environmental impact.  A fourth and newer style of landfill is called “green waste”, which allows for controlled disposal of organic materials.

C&D or Construction and Demolition Landfills

A C&D landfill is where industrial waste is disposed of.  Though any type of solid industrial waste is accepted at these landfills, construction debris is the number one filler followed by concrete, asphalt, gypsum, lumber, metal, bricks and other building material.

The C&D landfills are also known as MRFs – Material Recovery Facilities.  Debris that is brought in is piled up and sorted by workers into reusable materials and landfill materials.  Reusable materials are bought or donated to local stores that tag themselves as builders with reclaimed materials.  In addition, some MRFs repurpose materials in-house, such as turning lumber into mulch.

MSWs or Municipal Solid Waste Landfills

This is where your household and non-hazardous waste ends up, everything from empty cereal boxes to Grandma’s basement cleanout.  MSW landfills maintain strict guidelines for safety and monitoring.  Regulations and requirements for landfill liners, locations, groundwater monitoring and operating practices.  For everyone’s safety some materials may be banned from disposal in MSWs, including common household items like paints, cleaners/chemicals, motor oil, batteries and pesticides.

Hazardous Waste Landfills

Hazardous waste landfills are extremely structured and regulated. They are specifically engineered to hold hazardous wastes that eliminates any chance of it being released into the environment.  Requirements for hazardous include:

  • Double liners
  • Double leachate collection and removal systems
  • Leak detection systems
  • Run on, runoff and wind dispersal controls
  • Construction quality assurance programs

Hazardous waste landfills should be inspected multiple times a year to ensure that the facility is up to code and the standards are A+.

Green Waste Landfills

The rise of the green waste landfills is to help keep materials that naturally decompose on their own from filling up the already overflowing landfills.

Green waste landfills are simply composting sites for organic materials such as fruits, vegetables and yard waste.  Green waste does not include things like dried leaves, pine straw or hay.  These items are rich in carbon and considered brown waste.
