What Doesn’t Go In A Dumpster?

Especially when using a roll off dumpster for a cleanup project, it can be tempting to throw everything in! It’s a common story. You get a good groove going, and want to get everything finished ASAP. As usual, that means cutting some corners. Sure, it leaves a completely clear space that way, but the environmental cost can be HUGE. Here’s a guide with all the answers! All you need to do is ask yourself, what doesn’t go in a dumpster? We’ll split from here into two categories: Sometimes & Never!

First, the items that can Sometimes go in a dumpster. Call your provider beforehand to be sure!

  • Appliances- most appliances are just fine, but refrigerators and water heaters can be incredibly dangerous in a landfill!
  • Mattresses- typically a no go across the board, check with your service provider though
  • Branches and stumps- if these aren’t accepted in your area, you can find yard waste alternatives relatively easily
  • Aerosol cans- must be entirely empty to go in a dumpster!

Second, the absolutely not list! These are items that create significant risk to life or may damage the dumpster.

  • Tires- can cause damage to landfills, may even “float” as methane builds up inside
  • Paint- may contain lead or mercury
  • Glue/epoxy- can attach items to the dumpster
  • Car batteries- regular batteries are fine, just take the car batteries to an auto shop
  • Medical waste- should go ONLY in marked containers specifically for medical waste
  • Household cleaners- empty, rinsed containers are fine, but cleaners are an environmental hazard
  • Oil/fuel- huge flammability risk

These are not comprehensive lists, but they cover some important items and should serve has helpful guidelines. If you have questions about a specific item not listed, contact us or your local provider. Remember, better safe than sorry when it comes to the environment!

Small Dumpster Rentals Make Cleanup Easy

Small Dumpster Rentals Make Cleanup Easy

There are so many reasons your yard might need a good cleanup! Sometimes it’s just been too long and things have gotten a little wild. Or, a natural disaster could speed that process up tenfold! Additionally, landscaping projects are one of the most common things to leave a mess of a yard. There’s no shortage of mess-making in this life, but how can a small dumpster rental help you?

First, much of the mess left in a yard after any of these circumstances is too large to be lawn-bagged. Tree branches are the biggest culprit. Literally! It can be a huge hassle to break down fallen limbs into baggable pieces, and the process often leaves them jagged. That’s still a bag-killer! So the branches can’t go into bags. Do you know when your locality’s next brush pickup is? Does yours even have one? And the biggest question, do you really want to wait?

Well What’s The Fix?

With a small dumpster rental, you can clear space with the peace of mind that you can toss in anything you find. And there’s no penalty of filling up your garbage bins 5 days before the collection comes! You can simply focus on clearing your yard of whatever debris and detritus there is that needs disappeared.

Even if your clean up job isn’t huge, don’t let that stop you from making it easy on yourself! With our small dumpster rental, only pay for the space you use! We won’t charge for the empty space. A rental  like this really is as easy as it gets.

If you’re in the Acworth, GA area (plus 15 miles!) and you’re thinking about cleaning up your space, give us a call! We would love to be the ones to make your life that much easier.

Junk Removal vs. Roll-off Container Rentals

Junk Removal vs. Roll-off Container Rentals

Junk removal vs. roll-off container rentals – let’s compare and contrast each one to help you determine what disposal method works best for your needs.   With the kids back and school and Fall projects lined up, it’s time to consider how you will dispose of any waste, construction material or clutter. You can either select a local roll-off container company or a junk removal service.  There are advantages to both services, depending on the size and scale of your project.  So, let’s weigh in…

Junk Removal vs. Roll-off Container Rentals

How Long Will Your Project Take?

Typically, roll-off container rentals will provide a dumpster for a week or longer, where as a junk removal service will come to pick-up your items in a single trip.  If you are planning a construction project that could take a few days, a roll-off container would be the better option.  If you are cleaning out a small room that will take a half of a day, a junk removal service might better suit your purpose.

How Much Money Do You Want to Spend?

It’s a good idea to confirm pricing with each company and to check with local agencies to see if a permit is required for a roll-off container.  Roll-off containers will have a set price for each size of dumpster; 12-yard, 15-yard, etc.  A junk removal service will have a per trip fee.

How Much Waste, Material or Clutter Will You Have?

For instance, if you are cleaning out the garage and want to get rid of an old appliance, a few boxes of clothes and other small items, call a junk removal service.  If you are remodeling a kitchen, putting new shingles on your roof or cleaning out an attic that’s had ten years to accumulate “stuff”, we would strongly recommend a roll-off container.

How to Remove Old Kitchen Cabinets

How to Remove Old Kitchen Cabinets

How to remove old kitchen cabinets while remodeling when you are on a tight budget.  Taking out the old cabinets isn’t as hard or as time consuming as you may think.  All you need are a few tools, a little sweat equity and a plan to dispose of the old cabinets.  If they are in fairly good shape, you can sell or donate them.  If the cabinets are beyond restoring, call your local roll-off container company and have them deliver a dumpster right to your backdoor.

How to Remove old kitchen cabinets

Gathering the Tools

There are a few specific tools that you will need to get the job done such as:

  • Pry bar
  • Razor knife
  • Putty knife
  • Hammer
  • Drill
  • Screwdriver
  • Tape measure
  • Reciprocating saw
  • Step stool
  • Tarp or old blanket

Don’t forget the safety googles and gloves.

Preparing the Cabinets and Countertops

Empty out the cabinets and clear everything off of the countertops.  For extra protection, cover the counter tops with a tarp or old blanket.

Turn the power off to any electrical outlets you will be working around.

Taking Apart the Cabinets

Once the area is demolition ready, begin removing the doors and shelving.  Unscrew the doors from the cabinet body.  Keep the hinges attached to the door.  Lift out the drawers and shelves, leaving the brackets in place.  This will make it easier to reassemble the cabinets if you are selling or donating them.

Removing the Frame Work

Most cabinets have been finished off with caulk to keep water from getting behind the cabinets and/or to hide imperfections during the installment process.  Cut the caulk with the razor knife or putty knife.  Slip the pry bar between the wall and cabinet frame and gentle tap on the hammer to finish breaking the seal.

Taking Down the Cabinets

If you do not have a helper to hold the cabinets, find something to put under the cabinets to support them such as a stack of books or a sturdy box.

Unscrew any fasteners that connect the cabinets together.  Next, remove the screws that attach the cabinets to the wall or floor.  Before removing the final screws, make sure the cabinet is not going to fall of you or something else.

When the final screw is out, lift the cabinet up and away from the wall.   Congratulations, on a job well done!

Now, have you picked out your new cabinets?
