Old and/or scratched CDs
Did you know CDs are made of a blend of polycarbonate, bauxite and aluminum? The CD Recycling Center of America highly recommends that you recycled your unwanted CDs.
Accounting papers
If you follow consumerist.com – then you know there are only a few rules of thumb for keeping or disposing of financials.
• The only monthly bills you should keep are the ones you plan on writing off at the end of the year.
• Hold on to credit card receipts for large ticket items, especially if there is a warranty.
• Toss medical bills that have already been paid by your insurance company.
• Any tax returns or bank statements older than 7 years can be added to the trash pile.

How many of us have drawers filled with crayons and no kids at home any longer? Cellphone and all their accessories
Several cell phone companies will take all phones as a trade-in. They in turn will refurbish and/or donate to the phone to a charity or sell it at a lower price. Some companies will even give you an in-store credit. Use EBay or Craigslist to cell or give away old cords and cases.
Greeting Cards
If you think you can take your old holiday and birthday cards to the recycle bin think again. If they have any glitter, foil or ribbon on the card they will not be accepted. Paper only! Instead, ask your local school if they would like them for the children’s art class.
Manuals for household appliances

Porcelain and Knick-Knacks
Because porcelain, ceramic and Pyrex can’t be recycled like glass, it’s best to dispose of them in your roll-off container. Or donate them to someone who might want to fix them or recreate a different form of art.

This is probably the least favorite of any part of the project but it doesn’t make it any less important. Since roll off containers play a vital part in this area, R & R Container Services developed a construction cleanup checklist to help our clients tackle the job efficiently.
Always start at the top and work your way down. Clean ceiling fans, crown molding and tops of door frames that may harbor debris. A damp towel on top of a broomstick works great for those high-up places. And now would probably be a good time to dust out the cobwebs from ceilings and corners.
Use a broom to dust off walls. Follow with a damp cloth to clean off smudges or scuff marks that might have happened during the project.
A putty knife or straight edge razor is a good tool to clean off any paint or spackle from door hinges and handles. Take a minute to oil your door hinges and clean out any dirt that may have gotten stuck in the knuckles or sleeves.
Removed any stickers from new windows and clean them so they look as new as they are. Make sure you don’t miss the sills!
Take down the light fixtures and clean them. We always used this as a science project to see what bugs have accumulated in the globe in the last year.
Gather up all the last bits of trash that have been swept into the corners.
Thoroughly vacuum all flooring and floor board/molding, making sure you get into the corners and along the edges. Check for nails and staples!
Once the tools and trash have been taken out, clean hardwood or tiled floors. Remember that the heavy duty cleaning will be much more convenient while the room is empty of furnishings.

Below are some tips for both residential and commercial customers to help R & R ensure safe and efficient trash collection.
Keep the area around the roll-containers clear and clean.
R & R container drivers must have clear and safe access to the roll-off container at all times. Unfortunately, the city and private snow removal companies tend to pile snow in front of and around containers during those few times Georgia sees snow. When this happens it makes it difficult for the R & R drivers to get close enough for pick-up of a rental or to replace a full container with an empty one.
If you are a business, please make sure delivery trucks and employees don’t park in such a way that access to the container is blocked. You don’t want to get stuck having to pay extra rental fees or worse yet, have a full container and not be able to get an empty one for a few days because R & R couldn’t make the scheduled pick-up.
Keep from overloading your roll-off container.
Overloaded roll-off containers are a hazard to the environment and to the R & R drivers. Containers with trash sticking out of the top or hanging over the sides can result in scattered trash and possible injury or accidents. R & R is not responsible for picking up trash scattered on the ground.
Break down large or bulky trash.
Large bulky items can take up a lot of space, which may mean you don’t have as much room for the rest of the trash. Ask employees to break down bigger items as much as possible to help reduce wasted container space. R & R wants their customers to get their money worth.
Watch the Weight of items.
R & R has a limit as to the weight their trucks can pick-up. Materials such as dirt, bricks, asphalt, rocks shingles or steel can add up quickly in the weight department. Ask R & R how to best dispose of such items before they are loaded into the roll-off container.
Make sure R & R doesn’t get locked out
If your roll-off container is in a secured area, please unlock any gates the night before your scheduled pickup. Or, if you prefer, please provide R & R with a key to any locked gates. This will eliminate the need for you to remember to unlock the gate, leave an area unsecured for several hours or worse, forget to unlock the area and then have to reschedule a pick-up.
Be aware of what can cause hazardous waste fires.
Take all precaution when placing hazardous waste in a roll-off container and let R & R know before they pick-up the container. Trucks have been destroyed by fires because a customer placed flammable or hazardous materials in the container – be especially careful in the summer months when temperatures soar into the 100s.

Sort them into categories like winter clothes, Christmas decorations, family photos and etc. Not only will it help de-clutter but it will gain you easy access to something you want or need. And in the case of a flood or other disaster, this will quickly allow you to identify those items that will mostly likely be effected.
Take as many precautions as possible with your cherishables. You can place tarps or plastics covers over boxes and items in the attic. Especially, if you have an annoying leaky roof. This will help prevent water damage.
Anything that is stored in a basement or garage can be placed on pallets to keep them a few inches off the floor. We recommend raising appliances such at washing machines and freezers off the ground as well.
These precautions may not be enough to prevent all damage, but they might buy you some time to move items and will definitely limit the cleanup. Don’t wait until disaster strikes.

Why would you need to request special trash pick-up?
Special trash is defined differently by each municipality around the country. The general understanding is trash that is too large to fit into a receptacle or that consists of hazardous chemicals that cannot be taken to a landfill.
Items that do not fit into a regular size trash bin require special trash pick up. These are items that can NOT be disposed of regularly do to size and material:
