Roll Off Container Trucks

Roll Off Container trucks – A man’s truck for the job!

truck unload a roll off container at a home. If you’re going to rent a roll-off container, there are going to be a few things to think about, other than how big your container needs to be. Of course, you always want to find the right container size and one that is not rusting or hard to open. You also want to be picky and try to find a freshly painted dumpster so it looks beautiful in your front yard even with all your waste in it. However, one big thing to take into account when renting a roll-off container, is how will you get it to your house and how will it leave? Will the company be able to put it exactly where you want it? Will the company take extra precautions not to damage your yard or driveway when setting down or removing it? Luckily, maneuverable roll off container trucks can do the trick!

What are these Roll Off Container trucks?

One amazing feature about Maneuverable Roll Off Container trucks is that they’re environmentally friendly! Most Maneuverable trucks have something called “diesel particulate filter” also known as a DPF. The DPF is designed to remove all harmful diesel emissions from the atmosphere by filtering out the bad stuff. When the filtration process is done the trucks put out nearly water vapor instead of harmful diesel smoke through the tailpipe.

Another great feature of Roll Off Container trucks is that they are made specifically for container rentals. It allows containers to safely and easily be put on the ground. All the company has to do is place boards on the ground when they drop off the container so that your driveway is never scratched. The trucks porting the Roll Off Containers are also tightly compacted so they can fit into tight places. So if you’re renovating your house with new shingles, we can move the dumpster close enough so that you can throw them right in.

Dumpster Bags vs Container Rentals

Dumpster bags vs container rentals – to bag or not to bag that is the question.

trash bag breaking - overfilled. Since dumpster bags are rather cheap and lightweight, it might leave you thinking that dumpster bags are the way to go. However this is not always the case.

Dumpster bags are awesome for small, lightweight projects or a quick cleanup. If you’re going to be doing a big renovation, moving or using it for solids. (i.e. Bricks, Rocks, Concrete etc.) A dumpster bag will not be the best option. Most of the time, the company won’t be able to lift the bags because of the weight and bulk of the load, leaving you with a dumpster bag that you might even have to pay for because they can’t lift it. This could lead to a failed pickup attempt by the waste company leaving you where you started. Trying to find somewhere to put all this waste! If this is the case, you will be paying much more than if you had just originally rented a dumpster.

Here the pros and cons to using a dumpster bag:

Dumpster Bag Pros:
• Great for small projects/light material
• You can rent them for as long as you need too
• Looks a lot cooler.

Dumpster Bag Cons:
• They are only good for small projects/light materials
• They have roughly 20% less room than our 15 yard dumpsters
• They’ll have to be placed near a street or a wide area
• Not very sturdy and can easily topple over spilling the contents
• Slow pickups.

Container Rental Pros:
• Very easy to find the right size for your project
• We’ll accept almost any household waste (see our article on what you can and can’t throw into a dumpster!)
• Very fast delivery, most of the time being able to get to your property within 24-48 hours!
• Cost effective

Container Rental Cons:
• Absolutely none!

While dumpster bags have a purpose, it is indeed a very small one. Most of the time the better option is to just rent a roll off container. Or you might risk having to buy that ripped dumpster bag!

Recycle!

Recycle – How to reduce the waste you throw away.

chalk board sign that says reduce, reuse, recycleHave you ever seen the movie Wall-e? If so, you know that a world piled sky high in trash is much less beautiful than the one we live in today. As humans, we have a job to do our best to keep our world clean and healthy. And we can all do our parts, even if it’s the littlest thing, like changing how much junk mail you receive, to composting left over fruits and vegetables.

Here are some ways to reduce your waste.

1. Reusable containers.

Packing a lunch is something everyone does eventually, using throw away bags and containers will be much more expensive than using reusable – washable containers from home. Individually wrapped items, such a jello, ketchup packets and Kool-Aid drinks, normally will be thrown in the dumpster instead of recycling.

2. Give away your unwanted items!

You have to admit, there are a few things laying around your household that are no longer used, maybe that old TV in the addict or even that leather jacket you’ve grown out of. Instead of throwing them away, consider giving them to a donation center, such as goodwill. If you have more than just a few things, you might want to rent a dumpster to haul it out.

3. Compost!

Did you know that 10% of the average household trash, is left over food and yard waste? All this can be composted into new life, such as tomatoes, cucumbers and other fruits/vegetables. If you really want to start reducing your waste, you should start your own garden!

4. Stop getting junk mail!

I’m not sure you’re prepared for this. But the average American receives 30 pounds of junk mail per year. Crazy right? Here are some tips for getting rid of that pesky junk mail.

You can sign up for electronic versions of catalogs and magazines. You can also sign up for paperless billing with service providers.

5. Buy in Bulk

Buying in bulk definitely saves you money. It also dramatically reduces the amount of packaging you have to brought home, which accounts for about 30% of the waste thrown away each week. Recycle and buy smart and call R & R Container for your hauling services.

Roll Off Containers for Shingles Renovation

The right Roll Off Containers for shingles renovation because once you’ve finally installed that last shingle, there is still much to be done.

cont-dimensionsYou have to get rid of all the old shingles left behind!

Let’s go over the cost of renting a roll off container, how to estimate the weight of scrap roofing shingles, how to save money on roll container for singles renovation and more.

Your Shingles Matter!

You may not know, but there is a lot of different shingles! Not just in appearance, but also weight. The two main types of roofing shingles available are 3-tab asphalt shingles and architectural-style shingles. You most likely have one or the other.

3-tab shingles are your normal shingles found with a budgeted home owner. It’s also a relatively lightweight shingle, so it’s easier to stay under the container rental company’s weight limit compared to premium-style shingles.

Architectural shingles are a newer type of roofing shingle that gives a more “premium” look to a roof. If this is the type of shingle you’re disposing of, be aware that these shingles weigh considerable more than basic 3-tab shingles. Be careful not to go over weight! You can rack up costs very fast if you go over the weight limit.

Roofing “square” vs. square footage.

When you’re in the roofing business, there is something we like to call, “the square”. One square is equal to 100 square feet. For example, a 2,000 square foot roof is equal to 20 square.

If you know how many squares of shingles you have, and the right kind. It will be easy to talk to your container service people and figure out which container will fit your needs.

How big should I get my container?

Something to keep in mind, is that some roofs have lots of layers of shingles, so it might be more than you expect!

So, if you have a 20 square roof with two layers, that’s the same as 40 squares of shingles.Make sure you check before you order your container. It’s also a great ice breaker at parties to know how many layers you have on your roof.

3-tab shingles weigh about 250 lbs. per square.

10 sqs of roofing shingles = 1.25 total tons of weight: Go with a 6-to-10 yard container.
20 sqs of roofing shingles = 2.5 total tons of weight: Go with an 8-to-10 yard container.
30 sqs of roofing shingles = 3.75 total tons of weight: Go with a 12-to-15 yard container.
40 sqs of roofing shingles = 5 total tons of weight: Go with a 16-to-20 yard container.
50 square of roofing shingles = 6.25 total tons of weight: Go with at least a 20 yard container.
60 square of roofing shingles = 7.5 total tons of weight: Go with a 30 yard container or larger.

These roll off container sizes are only on capacity. Not on weight limit, make sure to ask your rental company about their weight limit. All companies are different.

For example, a container rental company may rent a 20-yard container for $350 with an included 4-ton weight allowance, while a competing company rents the same size container for $250 but only includes so much weight.

Always ask your Roll Off Service s about their own weight limits. Be careful though, some might be offended. Make sure they know it’s about the containers.

Architectural shingles weigh about 400 lbs. per square.

Architectural-style roofing shingles are on average about 40% heavier compared to 3-tab shingles, so you’ll need a slightly larger container to accommodate the extra bulk.

10 sqs of roofing shingles = 2 total tons of weight: Go with a 10 yard container.
20 sqs of roofing shingles = 4 total tons of weight: Go with a 10-to-12 yard container.
30 sqs of roofing shingles = 6 total tons of weight: Go with a 15-to-20 yard container.
40 sqs of roofing shingles = 8 total tons of weight: Go with a 20-to-30 yard container.
50 sqs of roofing shingles = 10 total tons of weight: Go with a 30-to-40 yard container.
60 sqs of roofing shingles = 12 total tons of weight: Go with a 40+ yard container.

Roll Off Containers

What you can and can’t place into roll-off containers?

man in gas mask from toxic wasteNormally, when you rent a dumpster or container you want to use it to its full potential. When you do so, you will feel like you got your money’s worth.  A lot of the times you start tossing things out into your dumpster and you’ll have a huge smile on your face with all the free space. Hold on now, before we go throwing out everything in the house. We need to see what is allowed to be placed inside your roll off container! Just because it is a dumpster doesn’t mean you can throw whatever you want into it. Containers have feelings too.

You have to remember, that whatever you throw in there has to be dealt with somehow! And if you’re using a legitimate company like R & R Container Service they’ll have their own rules to adhere to. Below is a list of items you can and can’t place in a dumpster so that you never find yourself in a bad (and perhaps expensive) situation.

Items you can, and some you probably shouldn’t place inside your roll off containers.

It’s pretty simple and there are definitely way more things you can place in a dumpster then you can’t. So don’t think it’s easier to just not rent a dumpster because you have to pay attention to what you’re putting in it. The rules for a dumpster are no different than for your regular trash can. If it’s hazardous to throw away at home then it’s hazardous to throw away in a dumpster.

Items that can be thrown away in a dumpster include (but are not limited to):

Yard Stuff: leaves, rocks, dirt, wood, etc

Household items: as long as you don’t have any completely toxic furniture, and it doesn’t break any of the rules listed below, you should be fine cleaning out your house!

Construction leftovers: nails, planks, shingles, bricks, old tools, metal.

Furniture: you can almost always put old furniture into dumpsters, that being: old mattresses, sofas, tables, rugs.

Electronics: TVs, lamps, microwaves, computers, ect.

Things you shouldn’t throw into a dumpster:

Home Repair items: Paint, Propane, kerosene.

Gardening tools: herbicides, fertilizer, pool chemicals, pesticides, rodent killer

Household cleaners: drain cleaners, bleach, floor cleaner, ammonia, batteries

Things for your car: antifreeze, gasoline, brake fluid, motor oil, radiator cleaner

Things with mercury: fluorescent bulbs, thermometers, thermostats, iodine

Other: radioactive waste, explosives, babies, ammunition, medical waste, asbestos and any other “Special Waste” as defined by applicable Local, State, or Federal laws

Hopefully, knowing what you can and can’t place into a roll-off container will aid in a successful dumpster rental.  Be sure to check with your local government website on the proper ways to dispose of the items roll off container rental companies can’t take.

Roll Off Dumpsters

Roll off dumpsters – make sure there is no third party trash

R & R Roll off dumpsterDumpster brokers are most of the time, the middleman of the dumpster business. They’re not as evil as you might first believe, but it’s best for you and your wallet to stay clear of them. Brokers normally pretend to be one of your local dumpster services, when actually, they don’t own any roll off dumpsters. They’re probably not even from your state!

After you’ve contacted a broker, they’ll call up a local company and tell them everything you’ve said to the broker. What’s the problem with this? First off, you’ll pay more. Brokers add on extra charges so they can take a cut of the profit before paying the local company. Secondly, you’re not in direct contact with the actual delivery company. This can often result in poor service or confusion.

Dealing direct is far better than dealing with a broker. You can save much more money by going straight to your local container service and cutting out the middleman.

Dumpster brokers are very difficult to spot for the untrained eye, they’ll never tell you they’re a broker. Stick to a local container/roll off dumpster service.

Tips for finding a reputable and local dumpster service.

Be careful of those pesky 800 numbers! Most local dumpster people will have a local number instead of an 800. This isn’t always the case, but it’s something to consider.

If you’re going to book online for one, try to figure out who exactly you’re sending your information to. In other words, don’t enter all of your needs into an online form (e.g., personal info, type of debris, dumpster size requirement, etc.) unless you know where this information is going. A broker can use this information and will find a service for you, normally a cheap service, you also have no say in what company he chooses. You could easily get stuck with an expensive bill and/or a company with horrible customer service.

A reputable, local dumpster rental company will be licensed, insured and upfront about its pricing structure. Avoid dumpster websites that have vague, outdated information. You can always do a license check on a company by visiting your local government website, or check out its standing at the Better Business Bureau.

Since 1999, R & R Container Service has provided our residential, commercial, and industrial customers with superior, professional, and friendly roll off containers and waste management services with no middle-man.
